Dem. Rep. Says Sexist GOP 'Repulses' Women
Meredith Shiner and I write today on the GOP's persistent trouble recruiting, retaining and attracting women, particularly in the House.
The exception seems to be among hard core conservatives, with Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and Virginia Foxx (R-NC), emerging as populist folk heroes on the right.
But that doesn't necessarily make them appealing to independent and moderate women, says Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), herself a rising star among a larger class of Democratic women.
Asked about Foxx and Bachmann, Wasserman Schultz, blasted away:
“This is a party that doesn’t respect women, a party that doesn’t believe women are equal to men,” she told POLITICO. “I don’t think [Bachmann and Foxx] attract women to their party,” she said. “I think they repulse women.”

A couple of weeks ago, 30 Republicans voted to keep arbitration clauses in employment contracts that would ensure that when other employees gang rape victims, they could not seek justice in court and would have to keep quiet about what happened to them, and in 2006 they voted to defeat a measure that would keep health insurance companies from using symptoms of domestic violence to deny health insurance for women. And you don't think there is reason for women to be concerned?

This is not an argument over opinion. I saw this on C-span as the 30 male republicans voted against the arbitration clause amendment. They do not care about women or justice for that matter or they would not vote against such a measure. There was absolutely no reason other than that they are in the pocket of industry not to have voted for this amendment.
